Columbia Selects Alumni Reading Series 2021-2022
We are delighted to announce the return of Columbia Selects, the Writing Program’s storied alumni reading series! The series has relaunched online for the 2021-22 season.

Join us Thursday, December 9, at 7 pm, for our fabulous lineup:

Theresa Lin is a lecturer at Rutgers University and has formerly taught in the Undergraduate Writing Program at Columbia University, where she earned her MFA and won the De Alba Prize for Best Fiction. She lives in Manhattan and is working on a novel based in Taiwan, and a collection of short stories.

Cindy Frenkel’s The Plague of the Tender-Hearted was recently released from Finishing Line Press. She served as a Writer-in-Residence with InsideOut Literary Arts Project (iO), which brings working poets into Detroit public schools. Her writing has appeared in numerous places, including poems in the anthology Divining Dante, and an essay, “Sharing Voices, Acting Crazy,” in the anthology To Light a Fire. Nathaniel Berry is the Managing Editor at No Contact Magazine. He writes a column called "Maple City Dispatch" for No Contact, about his hometown, Adrian, Michigan. He received an MFA from Columbia University in 2020, and lives in New York. He is currently querying his first novel, The Unburned County.

What is Columbia Selects? Columbia Selects is an alumni reading series hosted by the Columbia MFA Writing Program. These fresh talents are finished with or near to finished with their first books, but do not yet have a book contract and/or an agent. In recent years, many of our featured writers have achieved critical and commercial success. This is your chance to glimpse who you'll be reading in 2023!

For the online 2021-22 season, readings will take place on November 4, December 9, February 4, and March 4

Columbia Selects is curated by Bryan VanDyke and Emily Austin.

Come for the talent. Stay for the camaraderie and cocktails.
