Tells and Table Talk
A collaboration between Columbia at Home and GSAS Conversations

Poker is a sport and a pastime, an efficient way to lose some money—and a surprisingly enlightening path to self-knowledge.

Maria Konnikova ’10, ’11, ’13GSAS bet that her doctoral research on risky and emotional decision-making in uncertain environments would apply to the game of poker, and won big—$300,000 in tournament earnings, an admiring review in The New York Times, an excerpt in The Atlantic, and a best-selling book. She speaks with Jeremy Feinberg ’92CC, ’95LAW, former sports editor for the Columbia Daily Spectator and sports broadcaster on WKCR, about the human decision-making process, writing about sports, and the world of professional poker.

Ahead of the event, you can order a copy of Konnikova’s books (https://www.mariakonnikova.com/books/) and watch her keynote at the 2019 World Economic Forum in Davos (https://youtu.be/dD-oyQTgXOE).
